After spending almost 40 years as a video producer, director, editor and entrepreneur, it’s time for something else.
My wife and I own a home in El Paso, Texas and our current plan is to officially become Texans but travel much of the time between Mexico and other places.
My dad turns 90 this year. He is in a wonderful memory care facility on the shore of Lake Chapala Mexico. We plan to spend a lot of time in nearby Guadalajara so we can visit him regularly. I am learning Spanish.
The major focus of my life has been creating videos for businesses. Much less frequently, I created or edited a dance, music video or documentary — I really enjoyed those the best.
I may or may not make a YouTube channel with short travel or relocation documentaries. Given time to think about it, I might just take the opportunity to do something completely different. Right now, I am too busy packing up and selling my stuff. And learning Spanish.
I might be open to projects that bring me back to the Bay Area temporarily or editing and consulting remotely. I look forward to the luxury of time to figure out my next chapter.
I once met a man who retired early and had business cards printed. His official title was “Prince of Leisure”. That sounds good to me right about now.
I want to thank everyone who has participated in my professional journey: my clients who trusted me with their image, my colleagues in the industry, my employees and especially Alec Oyung who has been my wingman for over 27 years.
I also want to thank my wife Vivian, who has put up with all the crazy hours and ups and downs of this business. Since COVID, she and I have been working together at home. It has been a good practice-run for retirement — we are confident that we enjoy each other’s company. And won’t drive each other crazy.
